OnThisDay in 1928, Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen disappeared with 5 crew while flying on a rescue mission in the Arctic. Their bodies were never found. 17 yrs earlier he became the 1st to reach the S. Pole. See photos from that expedition here: h
